Assisi: Properly Maintaining Your Dog's Ears

By Robin Setser

If you are going to be a dog owners, you must pay extra attention to your pet's ears. There are many reasons for this, amongst them being the potential surfacing of infection. When you have a pet who's in any degree of pain, it's easy to see how discomfort in the ear can make matters even worse. With that said, though, if you're going to look after your dog's ears and make sure that they are properly cleaned, here are a few talking points supported by Assisi Animal Health and other pet care authorities.

To start off - and Assisi Animal Health will probably not say differently - the right type of cleaner must be used. You have to keep in mind that some options have harsher chemicals in them, alcohol being a common example, and it's important to make note of how alternatives can be used. Wouldn't it make sense for more natural products to come into effect? If you're going to clean your dog's ears with care, you have to make sure that the proper cleaner is utilized.

There's no denying the fact that a strong cleaner has to be utilized, but what about the utilities to go along with it? Before anything else, you should write off cotton swabs. The reason for this is that they can use further irritation, which is a trait that isn't true for just humans. It can even be worse for dogs. As a matter of fact, if you do not have the help of a veterinarian, thin objects such as cotton swabs should be kept far away from the ear canal.

Instead of going into the ear canal, you should make sure that you clean as close to that area as possible. The best way to use this is with a cotton ball, which will be used alongside the aforementioned cleaner. For the sake of the most optimal cleaning, you should start with the outside of the ear before you move further inside. If you take up this method, being mindful of any infected area of the ear, you can be certain that your dog's condition will be made that much better.

If you're truly dedicated to becoming a dog owner, it's clear that hygiene will be a priority. There are several factors linked to this, some of them more vital than others, and there are few which stand as tall as the ears. Given the fact that these are relatively prone to infection, as stated earlier, materials and methods alike must be accounted for. Once these are carried out, there's no denying the fact that the healthy condition of your dog will be maintained.
