Stockbridge GA Chiropractor Safely Alleviates Slipped Disc Pain

By Angeleah Mae Zerna

The spinal column is a vertical structure made up of small bones called vertebrae. The spinal cord is encased there along with the roots to nerves. Separating them are intervertebral discs that have an outer shell and a soft inner substance. They act as cushions which keep the bones from impacting each other when the person moves around. When they are subluxated, or misaligned, the end result may be a herniation. As a Stockbridge Georgia Chiropractor would explain, this is often called a slipped disc.

The hernia is the end result of a subluxation. That is the chiropractic term for a misalignment of the spinal bones. Since nerves that transmit signals to the body are sensitive, pressure against them is painful. The hernia causes compression and the pain that ensues may be serious to unbearable.

Consider the spine as a vertical column. It moves as the person moves. It is constructed to allow flexibility. The discs prevent the vertebrae from rubbing against each other as movement takes place. A subluxation, or misalignment, of the spine can force a part of a disc out from between two of them.

People who do not want to take pain medication prefer chiropractic care over other types. The pain pills can be addictive even if they are only over the counter strong. Testing and care are non-invasive, which adds to its popularity.

Meeting with a chiropractor for the first time begins the journey to pain management. The first step is taking a medical history and discussing the details of your injury or disease. Tests include range of motion, reflexive and a measurement of strength. An x-ray may be taken.

When the evaluation is finished, the chiropractor will be able to recommend a care plan to manage the pain. Two people with the same injury or disease may be given two different plans for care. Factors such as age and state of health determine what that care will entail. In any case, it will be tailored to your need to find alleviation of the pain. That will allow the slipped disc to begin healing itself.
