The Risks And Benefits Involved In Lipo

By Brenda Butler

People undergo various cosmetic procedures for different reasons, but the greatest reasons are so as to improve their body contour. Lipo or liposuction is the most common forms of cosmetic procedures done by many people worldwide. Just as the name suggests, it involves the suction of fat from the various parts of the body such as the arms, thighs, buttocks, calves, chin and even the neck. Here, an instrument known as the cannula is used to perform the procedure and also involves the application of a substantial amount of pressure.

It is usually more of a cosmetic procedure rather than a mechanism for losing weight. People who want to get rid of excess fat are the ones who usually undergo this kind of procedure, however only a limited amount can be removed. It should also be noted that it does not get rid of dimples, sketch marks or cellulite but used to suck out fat in order to enhance the contour. It also ensures the complete removal of fat cells and therefore one is advised to practice healthy living so as to ensure no re-growth.

There are certain things that one should know before undergoing such a procedure. For one, it is not a substitute for losing weight rather it is aimed at improving the looks. This should be the final option for anyone to take after all other lifestyle options have been completely exhausted. This means that if they have tried dieting and living a lifestyle that is healthy. Practitioners are always advised to have discussions about the procedure with their patients and explain what is involved.

Just like in other medical procedures, side effects are always expected. It is a norm to bleed a little after such a procedure but this should not scare you. However, there are some other risks that one could experience such as bruising. This is common in most surgeries therefore should cause no cause because the bruises gradually heal with time. In addition to this, one may often vomit after the procedure and this is expected to continue but only for several days.

Inflammation is yet another side effect witnessed in a number of patients. This usually occurs in the treated regions and in serious cases the effect is prolonged for six months. Since the procedure involves making incisions, fluid may start oozing from these parts. Instead of inflammation, other patients complain of numbness but this only lasts for a few weeks.

For people with sensitive skin disorders, they are most likely to experience allergic reactions. This may be caused by some of the medications used during the procedure. The cannula machine has also been known to cause skin burns. This in turn may cause some serious issues such as damaging the skin as well as the nerves around the treatment parts.

Thrombophlebitis is where clots form in veins. This has been cited as one of the most common side effects to happen and therefore should not cause alarm if it occurs.

In conclusion, the side effects stated above are not very serious therefore making the procedure safe. However, it is always good to consult with an expert before undergoing this kind of procedure.
