How To Create Nursing Drug Cards

By Deanne Shepard

Nursing students used the drug cards to know how drugs have been administered and used by many professionals. This is their way to know the right dosage that will be given to the patients and the side effects after taking the medicines. Although, these can be purchased in many stores, but making your own cards would be essential to familiarize all details about a certain drug.

Before you get started, you have to learn some important information from your instructor and the data that should be included to your project. By creating nursing drug cards, basic information is usually applicable. However, some teachers would require to add other information. If your teacher explains the necessary requirements needed, jot down all important data that could be included with your project.

Next is to gather the necessary supplies or materials for your cards. You only need a stack of note cards. Your teacher will determine the right size and how much would you use. You need to plan and write it down by using a pencil, so you can still erase them if there are changes to correct details.

You can also use your markers or even the highlighters. You can apply varieties of colors so you can make a color coded card. Every information will be colored with the colors you desire. It could be color pink, blue or orange. You may also use the internet and gather textbooks when you make a medical card.

You may also write all the generic or trade names for every drug on the note card. This information includes the correct pronunciations. However, it is not so important to color the information. You just need to use the color that you like or even use a black color. Flip each card and write all important details at the back.

You may begin by repeating the trade and generic names at the top portion. Then write the details in a clear and neat manner. You may refer a list of the requirements given by the teacher. One of the common details to be included is the dosage, medicine classification, therapeutic effect, common side effects, action of the drug, and nursing implications.

You may color this portion with any color you like. You can use the colors that may mark a certain data. Just for an example, the word effect, will be colored with orange. It depends on you, on making it effective, once you will be going to memorize it. You can also use a marker in making an outline in each section.

You continue writing the required medicines. Your instructor will also give you the lists needed. If not, then you should assess the patients and lean the type of drugs provided to them After that, you may create a card with the drugs you have been given to them. You may also check the side effects after taking the drugs.

Study all details and data you have made. You can also memorize it. Examine yourself by looking to each drug name in the front and try to remember them with the information at the back. This way, you can evaluate yourself whether you have learned a lot or you are just creating the projects because it is a requirement.
