All You Have got To know about Facelift

By Andrea Hamilton

A facelift is a cosmetic surgical process that is performed to give both people a much more fresh face. if you are getting worried or already bothered by the indicators of getting older on your face, undergoing facelift surgery may be a good option.

Technically known as rhytidectomy, facelift helps decreasing the signs of aging such as:

- Deep creases below your lower eyelids
- Drooping facial skin
- Creases stretching from the nose to the mouth corner
- Jowls due to reduction of muscle tone in your lower face
- A double jaw that will appear due to extraordinarily loose skin or excess fatty deposits under both the jaw and jaw.

Facelift Operations

There are various routines of facelift which do exist and they differ in the kind of incision done by the cosmetic surgeon, the treated area, and also, the invasiveness of the procdeure. Before deciding on a procedure, it is vital to consult with the doctor so as to select the procedure that will yield the best outcome.

Some factors that influence selection of the procedure include patient's expectations, age, healing time and the areas that are to be improved. Common facelift procedures include the following: mini-lift, mid-facelift, s-lift and tissue-glue facelift.

How Facelift Surgery Is Performed

Before the surgery, the surgeon will judge the skin consistency of the patient and explain the process. Doctors will ask smokers to quit roughly a week earlier the surgical procedure, and avoid the habit for a couple of weeks after the proceduresince smoking meddles with the circulation of blood to the skin. You will also be asked to avoid medicines that may cause increased bleeding, such as aspirin.

The routine can be made in a surgeon's office,in a health facility or in a hospice. Surgeons sometimes give a local anesthesia to help avoid patients feeling pain in the surgery but they are traditionally conscious. Some surgeons use general anesthesia.

When performing a basic facelift, a surgeon will begin to create an incision around your hairline and curving round the earlobe, then ending at the bottom of the hairline. He can then separate your skin from the fat and muscle beneath. The operating surgeon may then suction out the fat through liposuction. Or he can trim the excess fat to give your face a fresh, healthy look.

Slightly below the skin is a tissue layer called the superficial musculoaponeurotic system. The surgeon will fold it in order to tighten it, pulling the layer back over itself. This could lift the cheeks, firm the neck and give your jawline a definition. Any extra skin is removed with a laser or a surgical knife. The incision will then be closed with sutures or stitches.

A facelift surgery can last 2-4 hours, depending on the amount of procedures being performed and the limits of tissue and muscle work necessary.
