Benefits That Reusable Trigger Activated Heat Packs Give

By Elizabeth Meyer

There are many possible reasons why our bodies hurt out of nowhere. The most common pain a lot of people experience are lower back, neck and areas with large muscles that are often used. Strains can be caused by events like lifting, improper posture, or staying in a certain position for a long time. This can result to limited mobility and dull pain.

Heat therapy is best for these cases since the treatment is superficial. A popular device used for this in the United States is the reusable trigger activated heat packs. Most often, the method to create a hot compress involves boiling water and soaking a towel to absorb the warmth and then applying it to the injured area. This is ineffective because the heat only stays for a couple of minutes.

There are also other tools for this purpose. They range between electrical, chemical and bottle types. Since an activated heat pack is reusable, this makes it the more affordable choice. Apart from that there is no electrocution risks involved and rubber material that can cause the device to oxidize.

This pack can be applied as cold compress for inflamed wounds. Just put it in the freezer and wait for it to get cold. The chemical responsible for the high temperature released by the device is CaCO3 or calcium carbonate. What activates the crystallization of this chemical is the metal coin that is placed inside the pack.

This then triggers the CaCO3 to crystallize and the energy released produces a high temperature that remains for a length of time until the chemical solidifies. Once this happens, you can just boil the pad to bring it back to its liquid or gel state. Hot packs are effective because it helps increase the flow of blood to strained and painful areas like muscles, ligaments and tendons.

Applying superficial high temperature improves the blood flow that goes to the muscles tendons and ligaments. As a result, this promotes healing and distribution of nutrients on those parts. This also increases the range of motion when the focused muscle is stiff since it also increases tissue extensibility.

In this case the stimuli is the high temperature released from the hot compress. This becomes the reason why hot compression for abdominal pain due to menstruation is effective. Do not apply the pack directly on top of the skin.

Application of the pad directly on skin may risk the surface to burn. It is best to wrap the device with a towel of cloth first before using. This regulates the temperature and makes sure it is retained for a longer period. On whether cold or hot compress should be used on a particular injury, consult your doctor or a legitimate source.

Heat is not advised to be used on open and inflamed wounds and injuries. This is best for cold compress, ice packs and elevation. The amount of time that the device should be used in an area also varies on the type of injury. So be wary of this unless you want burns and blisters. This device only needs little maintenance and proper use for it to last very long.
