By Ruth Cooper

Sexual dysfunction may also be referred to as sexual malfunction or disorder. It is normally a kind of difficulty that is experienced by an individual person or a couple at any point of intimate activity such as physical pleasure, desire, arousal, orgasm and preference. As a result, the individual or the couple fail to get satisfaction. Nevertheless, when you experience such a problem, it is necessary to get help from an FL sexual dysfunction professional.

During treatment, it is important to have a thorough assessment of the general health and other sex related problems. Basically, anxiety, stress, guilt, and worry are usually key in proper management of sexual disorders. However, these disorders affect both men and women. Although sex dysfunction is a topic many people are embarrassed or hesitant to talk about, the fact is that most cases are treatable.

The causes of sex disorders may be physical or psychological. There are several medical or physical conditions which may cause these disorders. Such conditions may include diabetes, heart disease, hormonal imbalances, menopause and neurological diseases. On the other hand, chronic diseases and conditions can also result in these disorders like kidney diseases, liver failure, alcoholism and drug abuse. Also, the side effects of certain medications can affect your sex function and desire. The psychological causes are such as anxiety, stress, marital problems depression, guilt feelings, sex performance concerns, and previous sexual trauma.

Hormonal changes may as well cause sex disorders. In women, for example, decreased estrogen levels when they reach menopause leads to altered genital tissue and sex responsiveness. Again, a decrease in estrogen leads to decreased blood flow to the pelvic regions. Consequently, a woman can require extra time to get aroused and even reach their climax. Low estrogen levels can also lead to less genital sensations.

Hormonal changes in women may also cause the vaginal lining to become thinner as well as less elastic especially if the woman is not sexually active. As a result, the woman experiences pain during intercourse. Again, sex desire also goes down when the hormonal level goes down. Sex desire can also be affected after giving birth or during breast feeding as vaginal dryness may arise due to shift of hormone levels.

The attitudes towards sex may also result in lack of sex desire. This could be determined by the way a person was raised or bad experiences on sex in the past. This causes such people not to view sex as a normal part of the relationship or even enjoyable. This may cause them to approach sex with fear, guilt, anger and shame.

The common sex disorders in men are premature ejaculation and erectile dysfunction. The erectile problem is if a man cannot get or maintain an erection. It is usually common in majority of men and may be caused by physical or psychological causes.

On the other hand, premature ejaculation is when a man ejaculates too soon during sex than he wants. This becomes a problem if it is an issue to him and his partner. It is commonly caused by anxiety on sex performance, depression, stress, and unresolved issues within a relationship.
