How to comprehend the 5 ebola transmission and precautions

By Alfred Obi

Ebola transmission precautions are strigent mesaures established for protection agianst the deadly pathogen known as ebola.

The Ebola pathogen is transmitted thru direct contact with an infected person through skin, bodily liquids, tissues and/or blood. The pathogen is not airborne which increases the usefulness of basic Ebola transmission precautions to prevent the dissemination of the disease.

5 Ebola Transmission Precautions

1. Avoidance

Avoid travel to any areas where the Ebola virus has been spotted, especially in Africa where pandemics are becoming far-reaching. Any contact with patients, or the remains of patients, who have contracted the illness should also be avoided.

2. Protecting Clothing

Protecting clothing is one of the essential Ebola transmission precautions, particularly for caregivers or medical staff who are treating infected patients. Gloves, gowns, facial masks as well as eye shields are important as the end stages of the illness are targeted at spreading the virus as fast and far as possible through bodily liquids.

3. Cleanliness

Regular washing with soap and hot water can minimise the danger of contracting Ebola. Hand rubs containing alcohol are also effective in getting rid of the virus on the skin.

6. Food

Avoid eating any food that can have come into contact with an infected person. A variety of local African meats, especially bush meat, shouldn't be eaten.

5. Disposal of Remains

The bodily remains of folk infected with Ebola are communicable long after death has occurred. Only fully trained groups should handle the disposal of remains of infected Ebola patients. Groups need to wear necessary protective gear as well as use the right kit to dispose of remains. While cremation is advocated, gear isn't necessarily available and burial of the remains is obligatory in a controlled manner and in area that has been set aside for such remains.

There's as yet no vaccine which has been completely developed for the Ebola virus so following Ebola transmission precautions is critical in preventing the spread of the illness.
