The Importance Of Psychological Testing Child Custody

By Carolyn Walker

Before parents get divorced, they have to consider the needs and requirements of the child. This is why one has to look at psychological testing child custody which is so often neglected. When one does not think of the child's feeling, it could create a great impact on their life later down the line.

This also applies to a child who is going through a more severe situation than simply moving to an area where they will be separated from one of their parents. They may have been abused and this is traumatic for the child, especially when a parent is exposed and the community finds out. Of course, there are times when it remains private among the family.

A connection with the psychologist is important because this will lead to a good relationship between the therapist and the child. They will need to be able to feel as if they are comfortable and in a safe place in order to reveal confidential information. However, sometimes the psychologist will have to refer them somewhere else.

Psychologists will work in different ways, depending on the personality and the age of the child. They may have to refer them to someone who is more specialized. A lot of kids work well with someone who is more practical in what they do. This can relate to a therapist who specializes in something creative or with play, for example.

There are also different methods that these therapists use, which is obviously important depending on the personality of the child. They may be more introverted, and in a case like this they may even be referred to a play therapist, for example. Here, they will learn to be more creative. The play therapist will be able to tell what is going on in the mind of someone like this.

A therapist may also need to test someone with words and pictures. Older children may have to take a written test and they will be able to see if there is a problem with the brain. Some kids need to be removed from the home because of a parent who has been drinking or because of an addict in the family.

One may find that there are parents who have turned their lives around and have been to rehab. However, a social worker will have to visit the home from time to time in order to make sure that everything is in good order. There are times where parents relapse. They should be referred to a place like alcoholics anonymous, for example.

An evaluator will come into the home and interview all those who are concerned in the case. This can relate to someone who has been drinking or taking drugs. They may decide that the adult should go to a support group, even though they have been to rehab. Visiting the home from time to time is essential and a social worker should do this every so often.
