Menopausal Women Should Seek Treatment For Sleep Apnea To Fend Off Complications

By Nancy Meyer

Menopause comes with all kinds of symptoms, many of which can be really bothersome. One of those is insomnia that's usually brought about by pesky night sweats. Some menopausal women, however, may feel like they are not entirely rejuvenated even though insomnia is not bugging them. There are situations in which it can be blamed on a sleep disorder that is known to affect so many women who are already in the menopausal phase. Below are a few reasons why it's highly suggested for all affected women to get treatment for sleep apnea without any delay.

Everyone knows that getting 7 to 9 hours of restorative every single night is crucial. Despite of enjoying such, it may seem like you're still lacking in mental and physical energy the next day. It's possible that the culprit is what doctors call sleep apnea.

Such disorder is regarded by health authorities as something serious. Put simply, it is characterized by pauses in breathing while the woman is fast asleep. Sometimes the pauses may happen just a few times, but there are instances in which they may occur hundreds of times in a single night. Needless to say, pauses in breathing can deprive the various organs of the body of much needed oxygen, including most especially the brain.

This is exactly the reason why a menopausal woman who is affected by the said disorder is likely to suffer from headaches the next day. It's very much possible for her to also experience cognitive decline, which is what most people refer to as brain fog. Mood swings, anxiety and depression common during menopause can become exacerbated as well.

It's possible for too much daytime sleepiness to be experienced, too. This can certainly keep a woman who is in the menopausal phase already from obtaining a fruitful and enjoyable day. Having a sedentary lifestyle is also likely as a result of such. Lack of physical activity can cause unwanted gaining of weight, which is a common problem that menopause brings.

Health authorities confirm that robbing your brain of much needed oxygen can in fact increase your chance of having a stroke. This is most especially true if you are diagnosed with heart disease. Suffering from the disorder and also being diagnosed with deadly heart disease is not really a good combination.

For instance, the blood pressure can become elevated. Everyone knows that high blood pressure is a risk factor for heart disease. In people who are already diagnosed with heart disease, having high blood pressure can leave the heart overworked. As a result of such, it's not unlikely for heart failure to happen sooner or later.

Your blood sugar levels may also become increased. This paves the way for a condition known as insulin resistance. Put simply, it is the inability of your cells to respond to the hormone insulin, thus causing sugar to collect in your blood. You may find yourself battling type 2 diabetes if you fail to put it under control. There are many complications associated with type 2 diabetes, and having them around can make your menopausal life even more difficult.
