This is no longer the case as men have entered the world of beauty in a big way. They are particular about style, color and cut and they are now much more likely to purchase good quality grooming products and even cosmetics.

Most offer nail care regimes and in many instances they can even administer botox treatment. In addition, they routinely stock a selection of personal care products and cosmetics and they even employ specially trained consultants that can help their clients to look their very best at all times.

There can be little doubt that a pampering session at a beauty parlor has psychological benefits. Experts all agree that people that feel that they are looking good act accordingly. Because they believe that they are looking good, they act confidently. They have healthy self esteems. Self esteem is also boosted because the client is at all times the focus of attention. They feel important and they experience joy.

It is also a fact that modern society places a very high value on personal appearance. Many people feel that they will not be able to advance in their careers unless they look good. Money spent on grooming at professional institutions is therefore seen as an investment in advancement and general acceptance. The media plays an important role in perpetuating this idea.

Those days when clients paged through aged fashion magazines to choose a new style are long gone. Parlors now use sophisticated computer technology to help their clients choose the style that will suit them best. Clients can view a variety of computer generated images of themselves sporting different styles. Technology is even used to analyze skin type in order to select the most suitable skin care products and cosmetics.

The relationship between the stylist and the client is often very personal. Clients use their stylists as sounding boards and they often share secrets, fears and hopes with them. It is no wonder that so many stylists attain a stage where they boast their own personal client list. In many cases their clients will follow them if they change location.

People feel that they deserve to look better and to feel better. They also believe that they will be more successful if they pay close attention to their appearances. They may be right. In the meantime, the beauty industry is growing by leaps and bounds and there is no indication that it is going to abate anytime soon.
